About Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatricks(from amazon)

For Nora Grey, romance was not part of the plan. She's never been particularly attracted to the boys at her school, no matter how much her best friend, Vee, pushes them at her. Not until Patch came along.
With his easy smile and eyes that seem to see inside her, Nora is drawn to him against her better judgment.
But after a series of terrifying encounters, Nora's not sure who to trust. Patch seems to be everywhere she is, and to know more about her than her closest friends. She can't decide whether she should fall into his arms or run and hide. And when she tries to seek some answers, she finds herself near a truth that is way more unsettling than anything Patch makes her feel.
For Nora is right in the middle of an ancient battle between the immortal and those that have fallen - and, when it comes to choosing sides, the wrong choice will cost her life.

Breathing by Cheryl Renne Herbsman Book Contest

Savannah meets Jackson. Jackson and Savannah fall in love. Jackson leaves, where does that leave Savannah?

[from amazon]: From BooklistEver since she was a child, Savannah has heard her mother tell the story of Savannah’s first asthma attack, which occurred on the day her dad left the family. Since then, breathing has been a challenge for Savannah. Enter Jackson Channing, a gorgeous 18-year-old who is visiting his cousins. As she spends time with Jackson, Savannah’s breathing problems begin to dissipate. Then Jackson leaves for home, and Savannah’s challenge is to learn to breathe on her own, without her daddy, without her mama’s vigilance, and without Jackson’s validating love. This debut novel is a sweet, low-key romance about a young couple who find true love early and struggle to stay together as they embrace their individual growing-up challenges. Herbsman has created likable characters and a coastal Carolina setting that will capture the reader’s imagination, and she subtly emphasizes the qualities that create supportive life partners. Although some may find the dialect a challenge, it is authentic, lyrical, and consistent. Readers will look forward to more from this talented new author. Grades 7-10. --Frances Bradburn

The Life of Glass by Jillian Cantor ARC Giveaway!

About the book(Jacket Description):
Before he died, Melissa’s father told her about stars. He told her that the brightest stars weren’t always the most beautiful—that if people took the time to look at the smaller stars, if they looked with a telescope at the true essence of the star, they would find real beauty. But even though Melissa knows that beauty isn’t only skin deep, the people around her don’t seem to feel that way. There’s her gorgeous sister Ashley who will barely acknowledge Melissa at school, there's her best friend Ryan, who may be falling in love with the sophisticated Courtney, and there’s Melissa’s mother who’s dating someone new, someone who Melissa knows will never be able to replace her father. To make sure she doesn’t lose her father completely, Melissa spends her time trying to piece together the last of his secrets and completing a journal her father began—one about love and relationships and the remarkable ways people find one another. But when tragedy strikes, Melissa has to start living and loving in the present, as she realizes that being beautiful on the outside doesn't mean you can't be beautiful on the inside.
This is a lyrical tale of love, loss and self-discovery from the author of THE SEPTEMBER SISTERS.

Shadowland by Meg Cabot Review

Shadowland (The Mediator, Book 1)
Harper Collins
Fiction
ISBN 0060725117
304 Pages
Meet Suze Simon your typical 17 year old a sassy, tough Brooklyn babe with a bit of a temper, who doesn’t let anything get in her way --especially those pesky ghost that always comes to her at the most unconventional times, if she likes it or not. The ghost seems to come whenever they please and never seem to leave until Suze helps them with their unfinished business with the living. All right maybe isn’t your typical 17 year old but the opposite.
Suze Simon is what you would call a mediator-- born (others may say) with a gift but to her it’s a pain in butt. So far the ghosts got her in so much trouble she got put in a psychiatric ward, dubbed as the “bad girl” in school ( not that she minds that), and strained her relationship between her mother. This is her little secret she keeps to herself. Now she doesn’t see as much ghost as before.
So moving from Brooklyn to sunny California with her mom and her new family doesn’t seem like a bad idea. She reluctantly agrees to go move with her new family in California. Moving there, she is leaving back all that she loves, her friends and admirers, her grandma,
The memories, and most importantly her dad. Who is dead of course and visits her time to time. She worries moving to California she will not see him anymore. But thinksmoving to another state will get rid of her “problem”. But boy is she wrong.
When she arrives in her new room, in Caramel, California. Jesse, the hot ghost haunting her bedroom, doesn’t want her help. To Suze it’s relief. Moving here is her plan to start fresh, by going to malls and surfing. The very day of school there is already a problem -- a ghost problem. Realizes figuring out this case will not be as easy as she thought. And threatening the ghost doesn’t make the situation any better. Will she be able to help this ghost or will the ghost get to her first?
Meg Cabot does a beautiful job, creating a new world that literally sucks us into. Her plot is very enjoyable and relatable which makes the story very delightful. Many young adult readers will enjoy this series. And fans of Meg Cabot will not be disappointed.
Welcome to the life of Suze Simon, where seeing ghost is normal and sending them to afterlife is even better. Sit back and enjoy the adventures of Suze Simon.

Book Contest Giveaway!!!

Win Blood Promise or Destined For An Early Grave or The Other Tudors

Another exciting giveaway here on The Eclectic Reader. I'm offering readers the chance to win one of 3 books - Blood Promise by Richelle Mead OR Destined For An Early Grave by Jeaniene Frost OR The Other Tudors by Philippa Jones. Ooh choices, choices!!

Blood Promise by Richelle Mead is the fourth book in the Vampire Academy series, it's release date is 1st August in hardcover. This awesome YA urban fantasy series finished on a cliffhanger in Shadow Kiss, so I for one am dying to find out what happens.
The recent attack on St. Vladimir's Academy devastated the entire Moroi world. Many are dead. And, for the few victims carried off by Strigoi, their fates are even worse.

Destined for an Early Grave by Jeaniene Frost is book four in the Night Huntress series & is also due for release on 1st August in paperback.
Since half-vampire Cat Crawfield and her undead lover Bones met six years ago, they've fought against the rogue undead, battled a vengeful Master vampire, and pledged their devotion with a blood bond. Now it's time for a vacation. But their hopes for a perfect Paris holiday are dashed when Cat awakes one night in terror. She's having visions of a vampire named Gregor who's more powerful than Bones and has ties to her past that even Cat herself didn't know about.

The Other Tudors: Henry VIII's Mistresses and Bastards by Philippa Jones
Everybody thinks they know the tale of King Henry VIII's wives: divorced, beheaded, died; divorced, beheaded, survived. But behind this familiar story, lies a far more complex truth. This book brings together for the first time the 'other women' of King Henry VIII. 'The Other Tudors' examines the extraordinary untold tales of the women who Henry loved but never married, the mistresses who became queens and of his many children, both acknowledged and unacknowledged. Philippa Jones takes us deep into the web of secrets and deception at the Tudor Court and explores another, often unmentioned, side to the King's character.
